For most of us, treating others with compassion comes naturally. When we see someone suffering or in distress, our heart instinctively goes out to them. But what about when we are struggling? How do we typically respond to our own pain? If you are like most people, that gentleness you display towards others is replaced with self-criticism and judgment. This, in turn, adds a second layer of pain.
