What I’m Reading and Listening to in November

November, 2024

Articles:

Perimenopausal women are ‘enraged’ — and no longer keeping quiet. By Rachelle Bergstein. The fact that this article was featured in the Washington Post is amazing! Read it to learn how this topic has “has recently entered pop culture with the ferocity of a hot flash” and some women advocating on behalf of us all.

Lessons, Big and Small, From Growing out My Grey, by Elisabeth Egan. This New York Times article is an honest, relatable, laugh-out-loud, personal account of the unique challenges for women choosing to embrace their grey.

25 Famous Women on Achieving Success Later in Life by Julie Ma and Brooke LaMantia. Haven’t found your professional stride and worried you’ve peaked? Read some inspiring snippets to remind you that it’s never too late.

It’s Winter Vagina Time, Bitches by Dr. Jen Gunter. I’m not sure if a dry winter vagina applies to those of us in Southern California but the article is a good laugh.

Podcasts

Sam Baker of the Shift chats with Miranda July, author of the book All Fours recommended below.

Brene’ Brown’s Unlocking Us, with Dr. Mary Claire Haver, on the New Menopause. If you’re on Instagram and follow the menopause world, you know Dr. Haver. But I never knew her journey until I heard this episode.

Books:

All Fours, by Miranda July – The first great perimenopause novel,” according to the New York Times. Wow! As Sam Baker said, “Now there’s a sentence I never thought I’d see. All Fours is about “a curious, creative, sexually active woman who reaches the midpoint of her life, goes off the estrogen cliff and starts to question her direction?” I could not put it down. Warning: if masturbation makes you go “eww” then you may want to skip this one.
